Nancy Pelosi, The Real Insurrectionist

The media are aglow with news that two U.S. Capitol Police officers are suing Donald Trump for inflaming, encouraging, inciting and directing a riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6. It fits their narrative. But this doesn’t and therefore gets no coverage: The real insurgent is the speaker of the House.

Two days after the regrettable events at the Capitol, which no serious or honest person would call an insurrection, Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi called U.S. Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Her objective was to strip Donald Trump of his constitutional executive authority. She followed up the call with a letter to her power-hungry Democratic colleagues:

This morning, I spoke to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley to discuss available precautions for preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike. The situation of this unhinged president could not be more dangerous, and we must do everything that we can to protect the American people from his unbalanced assault on our country and our democracy.

She, of course, brought up Richard Nixon in the letter, goading her co-insurrectionists to organize a mutiny by reminding them that Republicans first enabled “their rogue president” before eventually insisting to Nixon “that it was time to go.”

“Republicans in Congress need to follow that example and call on Trump to depart his office – immediately. If the president does not leave office imminently and willingly, the Congress will proceed with our action.”

Judicial Watch believes “the call between the House speaker and the nation’s top military officer – regarding the powers of a sitting president – set a ‘dangerous precedent’ that could affect future presidencies.” So concerned was the group that it filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Defense Department, which so far hasn’t responded.

Is Judicial Watch wrong? Was Pelosi trying to pull a coup against a sitting president, previously having been unable to remove him from office using both constitutional and unconstitutional means? Imagine if a Republican House speaker had ever tried to enlist the military in removing a Democratic president. The screeching demands from Democrats and the media for an investigation – which would have been warranted – would have been ear splitting.

It’s impossible to separate Pelosi’s actions from the Democrats’ efforts to rule rather than govern. The events of Jan. 6 are simply another “crisis” they can take advantage of. But more than 74 million Trump voters and millions more who didn’t vote for him stand in the Democrats’ path to absolute power in America.

To remove these impediments, the nation’s deplorables and Neanderthals and bitter clingers, the Democrats have to poison, gaslight, and bully. Eliminating political discourse by labeling those with opposing views as racists, calling in the National Guard to repel an imaginary threat, shutting down speech that doesn’t advance the leftist agenda, destabilizing Western civilization, producing election laws that would give them a permanent political majority, enforcing woke orthodoxy, tacitly endorsing and encouraging Antifa and Black Lives Matter to conduct a campaign to spread chaos, destruction, and fear – these are the means Democrats are using to carry out their putsch.

In a real and frightening sense, Pelosi and her Democrats want to overthrow the country. They hope to destroy civil society and replace it with a political society. They don’t wish to be bothered by dissent or challenged by adversarial ideas.

If Pelosi had been successful in using the military to oust Trump before the peaceful transfer of executive governance on Jan. 20, that single act would have gone a long way toward solidifying her party’s raw political power – and taking America one step closer to being a banana republic.
